The Museum of Lakeland Life and Abbot Hall Art Gallery are situated
by the banks of the River Kent overlooked by Kendal Castle. Both
sites can be included on a group visit.
The Museum
looks at the way people lived and worked the English Lakes in the
last three centuries. Filled with objects, the Museum's displays
will appeal to both young and old.

THE COLLECTIONS |
|
Museum of Lakeland Life
Charting 300 years of Lakeland life it includes a Victorian street
scene, recreated farmhouse rooms and workshops of a wheelwright
and blacksmith. There is also a room dedicated to children's author,
Arthur Ransome.
Abbot
Hall Art Gallery
Changing exhibitions and fine collections, including works by George
Romney, Bridget Riley, John Ruskin, Edward Lear, Frank Auerbach,
Ben Nicholson and Kurt Schwitters, 18th century furniture and objets
d'art.

IN ORDER TO RECEIVE GROUP BENEFITS, all group members must pay the
group admission even if they individually belong to the National
Art Collections Fund, the Museums Association or similar organisation
which would usually grant them free entry. If ALL the group belong
to the Museums Association, then the leader must inform us in advance
to take advantage of free entry for the whole group.

(Mon-Fri arranged in advance).

BOOKING |
|
Please confirm your booking well in advance of your visit, particularly
if you wish to have meals or refreshments in the Coffee Shop. Please
give us the final number of people in your group at least one week
before the date of your visit.

PAYMENT |
|
A deposit should be sent on booking, and then the balance should be
paid upon arrival. We accept major credit cards, cheques with a guarantee
card and cash. Cheques should be made payable to The Lakeland Arts
Trust
|

|
|
GROUP SIZE |
|
We can comfortably accommodate large parties, but if you have not
booked a guided tour, we suggest that you split into smaller groups
of around 10 starting at different points to ensure maximum enjoyment
of the diverse collections.

|
GUIDED TOURS |
|
All groups are welcomed by a member of staff on arrival. Guided tours,
lasting approximately 30 minutes, can be arranged in advance, led
by one of the curatorial staff. Please discuss your needs with the
museum or gallery prior to your visit.

REFRESHMENTS |

The Abbot Hall coffee shop can accommodate up to 15 people in one
sitting for lunch or afternoon tea. Please note that the Coffee Shop
is very popular so advance bookings are essential. Special selections
may be available for groups booked in advance. |
