Display - Sound Writers & Talking Machines
12 July - 18 December
The ability to listen to recorded sound is commonplace today, but Thomas Edison’s Phonograph astounded listeners 130 years ago. This display showcases the Museum’s collection of phonographs and gramophones and tells the story of Edison’s pioneering work. The sound of Edwardian popular music can be enjoyed every Thursday at 2.00pm with a demonstration of our 1909 Edison Phonograph.
Display - Victorian Fashion: 1837 to 1901
Until 18 December
Some of the Museum’s finest pieces of Victorian costume are on display to allow you to see the changing shape of fashion through Queen Victoria’s reign, from crinolines to bustles and bonnets to leg of mutton sleeves.
