| VICTORIANA |
|
The
Museum of Lakeland Life is filled with Victoriana, ranging from the
fascinating parlour decorations such as glass cases of stuffed birds,
through to early experiments in pedal power - Dr Sawyers quadrocycle
of the 1860s.
The Victorians
were hugely inventive, and the endless toys and games on display
witness this. The kaleidoscope, dolls house and china doll all rose
to prominence in the nineteenth century, and many examples are on
display.
Walking through
the nineteenth century parlour and bedroom, you can marvel at what
was achieved in the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 - 1901), while
still being glad we are now in the twenty-first century with washing
machines and mobile phones!
