VOLUNTARY HELP
Wheelwright's display The Museum of Lakeland Life relies heavily on volunteers - we could not achieve so much without their help. The time given can vary from the odd couple of hours help with specific projects, to full time work experience for postgraduate students. Listed below are some of the ways in which help can be given. If you would be interested in any of these or helping in other ways please contact us.

Documentation
The Museum has large collections of social history, costume, and photographic and archival material. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to document and catalogue this material - so that we can display it and allow researchers access to the collections. Volunteers tasks can range from measuring and listing items, researching objects, through to sewing labels onto costume!

Mounting displays
Practical hands-on experience in mounting displays is also available, although this type of experience often means a commitment of several months. This allows you to see a display through the various stages of research, writing labels to displaying objects. Suitable for students, particularly those considering a career in museums.

Mail Outs / Distribution
The Museum is always trying to reach out to new audiences, as well as our regular visitors. If you feel able to help with publicity, either with stuffing envelopes, distributing posters or simply ideas.

Research
If you like learning about new things, and doing a little detective work - perhaps you'd like to become involved in research. This could be connected to upcoming temporary displays, or our varied collections.
