About the Museum
The Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry is housed in the original Georgian stables of Abbot Hall and has a rich collection of Lake District social history. The museum reveals how people lived in the Lake District over the years and how the unique local landscape shaped their lives.
It is home to the Joseph Hardman collection of nearly 5000 photographs which document the traditions of Lakeland Life, and also items owned by the celebrated author Arthur Ramsome, including a typed draft of Swallows and Amazons.
The museum is currently closed for redevelopment.
