Easter: Weave your own basket - with Lorna Singleton

Families can join Lorna Singleton to try their hand at basket making throughout the Easter holiday.

If you enjoy working with your hands and making something useful and practical, then this Easter workshop is just for you.

Craftsperson Lorna Singleton will show you how to make and leave with a basket made from a range of materials, plus an instruction card so you can continue to make at home.

Lorna currently has her baskets on show in an exhibition at the museum. She is one of only four oak swill basket makers in the whole world.

The Weave Your Own Basket workshops run twice daily over six days.

Using the same techniques that Lorna uses when making her own swill baskets, you will learn how to follow a pattern from instruction, how to manipulate man-made material, develop skills in dexterity and how to use your creativity to inspire.

This workshop is for anyone aged 8 to 18. Perfect for those that have never tried basket weaving and want to have a go, or those that want to develop their own skills using different materials.

Sessions last 60 minutes and cost £5 per participant. Each session has ten places so booking is essential.

Children can be left on their own as all our staff are fully DBS cleared.

Meet at the desk at Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry. Sessions wilk take place in the Lab nearby.
