A view of Highgate in Kendal looking towards Striklandgate and the town hall. Highgate means the 'Chief Street' and is the main street into Kendal. Its name suddenly changes to Striklandgate by the town hall which might seem odd. Before 1803, however, there was a large long building here known as the 'New Biggin' (new building) separating the two streets.
